Friday night January 23rd the place to be was at the City National Grove in Anaheim, Ca for NAMM JAM 2015. This event was produced by Delve Texas and sponsored by Epiphone Guitars, Monster Energy, Affliction, FX Group, Newtek, Guitar World Magazine, SIT Strings, Kramer Guitars, Band Gear and Gotham Stands. The event was hosted by Sirius XM and Liquid Metal host Jose Mangin.
Headlining NAMM JAM 2015 was American glam metal band Steel Panther Supporting acts for the night were Nick Colionne, Otherwise and Swedish sleaze rockers Hardcore Superstar. The doors opened promptly at 6PM and Nick Colionne hit the stage at 7PM. Nick Colionne mixes blues, jazz, R&B and funk to create a unique and high energy brand of music. Next up was Las Vegas based band “Otherwise”. They hit the stage full of energy and played a powerful set.
Coming all the way from Gothenburg Sweden to perform their first show in the US in over ten years was “Hardcore Superstar”. They started the set with “Moonshine” off of the 2010 release “Split your Lip”. The band hit the stage with a powerful force and quickly grabbed the attention of the crowd. They finished their 6 song set leaving everybody wanting more by closing with their hit “We Don’t Celebrate Sundays”. I’ve been a long time fan of Hardcore Superstar and hope to see them come back to the US for a tour very soon. Following Hardcore Superstars performance was the Jonny Coffin/Affliction fashion show. Who doesn’t like sexy women walking the stage displaying new “metal” fashions?
Steel Panther hit the stage at 10:30 opening with “Pussywhipped”, which is off their current release “All You Can Eat”. Steel Panther is well known for bringing other artist’s on stage when they performed at the “House of Blues” in Los Angeles. Why should tonight be different? Marty Friedman, formerly of Megadeth was brought out to perform “Asian Hooker” with them. After a couple more songs, a lot of banter between the guys and a drunk flashing girl that wouldn’t leave the stage, they brought out Tommy Thayer of Kiss. Naturally the guys wanted to do a Kiss song, so they played “I Love It Loud”. By the crowd response, there was no doubt that there were many Kiss fans in attendance. Tommy stayed on stage for one more song, performing “Gangbang at the Old Folks Home”. Steel Panther closed their set with their popular song “Death to All But Metal”.
It was an incredible night of music from all performers. I didn’t want the night to end. With the NAMM JAM lineup this year and last year, it’s safe to say that Delve Texas brings legends to the stage at NAMM. I cannot wait to see what’s in store for next year.
